Maidstone 3rd XV 60
Cranbrook 2nd XV 0

An emphatic victory over a team who were top of the league in the early
part of the season, but who could not compete with the power of the
Maidstone pack and the guile and flair in the backs. 2 early penalties by
Darren Banfield set Maidstone on their way. Soon followed by a sweeping
try by fly half Dane Smith, who constantly caused panic in the Cranbrook
defence. The beast who is Jacques then got the first of 2 tries, breaking
off the back of a driving maul and stepping past a couple of Cranbrook
defenders (it may have been that they side stepped out of his way having
seen the determined look on his face). A pushover try by the forwards
completed the scoring in the first half. The second half saw more of the
same- total dominance up front in scrum, line out, ruck and maul, combined
with slick handling in the backs. The inter play between forwards and
backs was also excellent, with Maidstone constantly recycling the ball to
maintain attacks. Cranbrook battled well but were totally out gunned.
Tries by Eugene Moore, Darren Banfield, The Bok,Dominic Baxter, Tuggy,
Pete Mattinson and a second push over completed the rout and added a
healthy 40 points to Maidstone's points difference.  Outstanding play in
all areas and by all 16 players. We now need to maintain this intensity,
commitment and work ethic in the run in to the season. Well done lads and
cheers to Eugene for the post match beers. Man of the match extremely
difficult to judge among so many fine performances, but the Bok just edged
it with his tries, all round contribution and unusually, his discipline.
Well done. Cheers and beers, Mass
