Maidstone 3rd XV 47
Lordswood 2nd XV  7

Maidstone continued their title drive with an unconvincing performance at
Lordswood, masters of bringing everyone down to their level. A bright
start saw The Bok Beast drive over to score and this was soon followed by
a pushover try, with Maidstone yet again proving dominant in the scrum.
lordswood did have some good possession but never really threatened to
turn the game round. Eugene Moore the flying kiwi then got in on the act
and went over for the first of his hatrick. 19-0 at half time thanks to
the big boot of Darren Banfield, who is growing into the full back role
and who made big inroads into the Lordswood defence when counter
attacking.
The second half saw Maidstone welcome return of up and coming oldster Phil
Davies, who made an immediate impact by calling a blindside move and
putting Eugene in in the corner. From the kick off Matt Vickers collected
the ball and fed to Banners who smashed the ball upfield. The bounce went
straight to Vickers following up and he romped over under the posts.
Mike Hill made one of many telling bursts and looked to be going over for
a try, but got pulled down a yard short. This allowed Charlie Flynn to
take the pop and accept the try on his behalf-good support Charlie.
Lordswood did manage to get on the board following good work from their 9
and 10, both useful players, and a somewhat controversial decision from
the ref after their player crawled over the line.
This sparked an ugly confrontation at a maul, when to everyones
astonishment, Matt Plowman and Jacques were both yellow carded for
handbagging-totally out of character!
Their absence was hardly noticed as the 6 man scrum continued to push
Lordswood all over the pitch, and they rested up nicely for the Evergreen
match.
Eugene finished the game on a high by showing his class and cutting a
great line to complete a well deserved treble.
Playing poorly and winning by 40 cant be bad, but there are sterner tests
ahead and Maidstone need to cut down on errors, keep their discipline and
increase their workrate in order to become the finished product.
Man of the match was tough to call but Darren Banfield takes it for his
assuredness under the high ball, his bullocking runs and his kicking, both
out of hand and at goal. Cheers and beers Banners.
