Maidstone 3rd XV 43
Vigo 2nd XV 7

Maidstone got back on track with a comfortable win over newly promoted
Vigo. They dominated the early exchanges and from a quickly taken penalty
in midfield, Jacques Vray broke the gain line, off loaded and debutant Tom
Harvey was put away on the left wing. His pace took him round the defence
to open the scoring.
A scrum near the Vigo line led to the second score, with scrum half Shaun
Charlton going blind, using the winger as a decoy and surging over the
line, to give Maidstone a comfortable lead. A fracas between Vray and the
Vigo prop only served to psych up the South African even more ( if that is
possible! ) and he took a short tap penalty five yards out to get his
usual battering ram try, running through the same prop on the way over.
Ian Howson bounced off a couple of defenders, following some neat
interpassing down the right hand side, scoring in the corner.24-0 with
Maidstone in command, but a lapse in concentration saw a speculative kick
from the Vigo 10 bounce straight into their blindside winger's hands and
he went over to score, making it 19-7 at half time.
The second half saw Maidstone take command again. Powerful forward drives,
dominance in scrum and line out gave ample possesion to the backs. A
series of five metre scrums led to a penalty from which second row Charlie
Flynn barged over, and from a similar position Charlie added his second,
taking 3 Vigo defenders with him.
Quick hands saw the ball go out wide to Tom Harvey, who rounded his man
with ease to get his second score. Four conversions from John Hogarth made
Maidstone worthy winners.
Credit to Vigo, who showed a lot of commitment and guts, defending well,
particularly their young  winger who made a try saving tackle on the line
to stop Darren Banfield-no mean feat.
Man of the match Tom Harvey - Great pace, knows how to get round his man,
and looks for the off load. Well played Tom.
Even better, Fishy has agreed to provide the after match beers next week.
he will be man of the match next week!
