Gravesend III 7 – 10 Maidstone IV
28/10/06
Another Saturday, another 4's line up. That said, it was a team packed with experience including a father & son combo in Tim and James Benger. The game was made all the more interesting by Gravesend’s ‘unique’ pitch, which meant that both sides were always attacking uphill.
The dominance of the Maidstone pack soon became evident but the 4’s were unable to convert their superiority into points until Adam Williams went over after some great support play. Rob Wood converted to take the 4's into half time at 0-7 up.
The second half played out much the same as the first, with the Maidstone pack starving the opposition of decent ball. However, with 20 minutes left to play, the home side drew level after taking a quick tap from a dubious penalty to catch the Maidstone defence out of position.
The 4's not to be disillusioned went back up the hill once more gaining a penalty which Wood converted into points to leave the 4's 7-10. The Maidstone pack continued to show great control and Gravesend never threatened the narrow lead, giving the 4’s a hard fought but well deserved away win.
