4th XV Season 2010/11
A Team In Search of A Leader
Following the excellent job done by Mark Staples last season, (pictured right) we are still waiting for a resilient and charismatic leader to step forward to take on the job, now that Mark has got himself married and moved away from Maidstone (quite an extreme way of concocting an escape route from this high-pressure role !!)
In the absence of anyone resilient and charismatic, it looks as though Richard Ewence will be acting as a temporary stand-in once again, supported (hopefully) by the ever dependable Dave Jackson.
It is particularly in the 4th team that new players and players stepping up from the junior club often find their feet, playing along- side a few long serving stalwarts who give the side some much needed stability. The best players will quickly gravitate upwards to the top end of the club but its always good to hang on to a few quality players when they find that they're enjoying the ambience in the lower sides.
Recruitment is vital to this club and this team and new comers are welcome all year round.
The key to success this season will be maintaining the healthy blend of experience and youth, whilst adding that bit of grit and team spirit for the whole 80 minutes.
Most importantly though, is to have fun both on and off the pitch; play all of our fixtures; to play within the spirit of the game; to enjoy our rugby and to uphold the fine traditions of Maidstone FC.
