Senior Club Round Up 7th November 2005
Congratulations to the Youth Section on the success of their festival on Sunday and to all their helpers and organizers.
Apologies to anyone who turned up to see the Mustangs play Cranbrook 1 at the Mote on Saturday: Cranbrook cried off on Friday evening and the only fixture that could be obtained at such short notice was away (Tunbridge Wells II). Well done to the Mustangs for agreeing to play away at such short notice and for winning the game 22-7. Hope the feat can be repeated when they play TWII in the league on December 10th.
As a result, the large crowd that had assembled to watch the Mustangs v Cranbrook (including some from Cranbrook) were treated to The Dream Team on the 1st team pitch against Tonbridge Judds III. (Has the 1st team pitch ever looked so wide) Although TJs were still in contention at half-time, the final score was 43-7 to the dreamy boys and another good League victory to continue the assault on Mid Kent A Division.
Meanwhile, The Extra A took on Tunbridge Wells III in a home friendly and rattled up their best win of the season, rumoured to be 35- 0 (but yet to be confirmed). With Simon Cripps assembling the team this week and Darren Yeats leading them on the field, it is clear that losing Ian Davis as skipper has obviously not brought The Extra A to its knees yet.
The B XV emerged as the only casualty of the week-end, going down 29-12 in an away friendly to a fit young Medway IV after losing one or two key players (to the 4s and to an untimely stomach bug). Lying second in the table, The B will need all hands on deck next week to take on League leaders Lordswood III who have won all of their first 5 league games.
With Chelsea losing at the weekend and The Vets notching up a win, their playing records are now once again spookily similar ie lost one, drawn one and won the rest.
Having given up a 10 -0 first half lead against Vigo III, the Vets did well to claw back the lead before the end of the game. Amazingly for a game at Vigo, it didn’t snow!!
After one week off, The 1st XV are back in action next weekend (12th Nov), at home to Sidcup 1 in another vital league game. Sidcup are one of the two teams currently lying below Maidstone in the table and it is to be hoped that those respective League positions will be maintained after the game. NB The game is being played at Maidstone as Sidcup could not host the game (as originally scheduled), owing to the annual ball at their club-house.
Do go and support the 1st Team at The Mote if you possibly can. There will certainly be lots of home action to choose from as there are 4 home fixtures this Saturday so the Club-House should be buzzing. Don’t forget to allow for extra drinking time as there are sure to be at least one of the weekend’s big matches on the big-screen after the home matches have finished and possibly two.
Don’t forget that all subs not yet paid are now overdue and non-payers are not covered by the RFU insurance scheme. Get a standing order mandate from the bar-staff.
