Maidstone 20 Aylesford 17 |
Despite the bitter chill in the wind, Maidstone U13’s hosted Aylesford in a highly competitive match. Proving to be the stronger side, and following domination from the start, Maidstone’s loose-head prop Sam Weston stormed to the try-line to score what can only be described as a ‘cracker’. Although Aylesford battled to defend, once again the Stone’s added a further five points with another Weston try, from a penalty awarded on the five-metre line. Having played the majority of this half attacking the bulls, it was pleasing to the large group of Maidstone supporters to celebrate another menacing try, scored by fly-half Sam Ellis. Much to the delight of the rest of the supporting crowd, Aylesford’s big centre escaped the strong defensive line to bring the half-time score to 15-5. A noisy half-time team talk told Aylesford to test the Maidstone defence, and so did, resulting in a lucky try for the Bull’s, bringing the score up to 15-10. Maidstone’s fourth try came with a fantastic galloping sprint from Ryan MacDonald, leaving a ten point gap between the two sides. The gap soon narrowed when a third Aylesford try was scored under the posts, and was converted successfully despite the strong winds. The game was bought to a tight finish with a mere three point Maidstone win. Maidstone played at a high standard throughout, and deserve to be congratulated for their superb efforts. It’s safe to say the coaches, parents and players will be smiling for many more weeks to come! |
