U13s Maidstone vs Gravesend 26 November
Maidstone started the game with a purpose and scored their first try within a few minutes of kick-off after good interplay between forwards & backs resulted in Tom Sloan being driven over. Dan Eastwood kicked the conversion and we were away to our best start of the season. Maidstone started to play good rugby, winning rucks, passing and moving well and generally being first to the breakdowns. The 2nd Maidstone try was not long coming after a sustained period of possession, Dan Eastwood was driven over in the left corner. Maidstone were now running the show, the forwards were winning plenty of possession from set-pieces and the backs were putting together some good passing moves. A 3rd try came from more quality possession & passing through several phases, which finally resulted in Ryan Gibson barging through for a score in the left corner. The 4th try was something special Zack Murphy won the ball in his own half and set off on a powerful solo run, beating several would be tackles to score in the right corner. It was all Maidstone and another brilliant score came from a Maidstone scrum from which Ben Hollingsworth set off on a lightening fast blindside run for his first try. Maidstone went in at half-time 27-0 up and thoroughly dominant.
The 2nd half was more of the same. Maidstone maintained possession through multiple phases and the Maidstone hooker, Harry Hynes, went in under the posts. Ben Hollingsworth switched to right wing and produced another quick turn of foot to score his 2nd try in the right corner. Alex Davies finished off the try scoring for the Stones with a nice move down the centre to score under the posts. Ben Hollingsworth kicked the conversion and the final score was 44-0 to a jubilant Maidstone team.
The U13s had struggled to win in recent games but have been working hard and it was good to see all of the effort coming together in a very high quality team performance. Everyone contributed to this result and we hope to be able to build and develop from here for the rest of the season.
Man of the Match: Zack Murphy.
