Ashford 7-0 Maidstone

Maidstone travelled to Ashford on perhaps the wettest and windiest day so far this year. With conditions underfoot so wet, Maidstone’s usual game of flowing rugby was going to be a challenge.

The game started scrappy with both trams teams making mistakes due to the conditions. Ashford’s strong forwards attacked from the breakdown at every opportunity and tested Maidstone’s defence to the limit, the pressure paid off and Ashford scored a typical forwards under the posts and kicked the conversion.

Maidstone hit back and kept pressure on the Ashford defence until it was cleared. In the second half the conditions improved and with Ashford continuously slowing down the ball at the ruck, and being penalised, Maidstone’s quick backs were unable to get into the speed of game that they were used to. With decisions going against them the Stones dug deeper and Ashford’s defence held solid.
