Woodford 35 Maidstone 12
Maidstone lost this first encounter against an Essex team on a cold day.
After arriving at Woodford’s club in plenty of time to do their usual pre match warm up, we found the club pitches out of bounds and waited for directions to pitches on the outskirts of Chigwell.
With only twenty minutes to warm up and stretch, Maidstone really found it hard to play their flowing rugby.
Woodford struck three times in the first half via mistakes made by the Stones defence.
Good strong running from Olly Newton saw a good try and moments later Tom Griffin burst down the wing to score and with Sam Ellis adding the extras the stones looked set to make a match of it.
The second half saw mistakes made by the stones and gifted Woodford four more tries to bring the final score 35 – 12.
