Maidstone 19-0 Westcombe Park

Maidstone faced an unknown opposition on a perfect day for rugby at The Mote. Playing on the first XV pitch, the boys were fired up and wanting victory.

From the start Westcombe Park proved to be a strong physical team and Maidstone had to be at their very best to defend. Maidstone’s pack fought hard and after a good maul on the grandstand side the backs were able to use their speed and good hands to allow Tom Griffin to score under the posts, Sam Ellis added the extras.

Good hard tackling from the backs stopped many attacks from Westcombe Park and Sam Ellis proved to be a big hitter. Pratik Rupacha, a new starter to the game had an impressive debut on the wing.

The second half saw Westcombe Park come out really fired up and the Stones fronted them up and held their own. A kick and chase by Maidstone’s man-of-the-match Tom Griffin saw the Stones get to it in numbers and drove Brett Scott over the line for a fine team try. Sam Ellis converted.

More pressure by the Stones saw a 5m scrum and good vision from the backs saw Frazer Clucas enter the line and score in the corner for his first try of the season.

The last five minutes saw Westcombe Park in the Maidstone 22 and good solid defence saw the home team safe.

Team: Weston (capt), Carroll, Hines, Sloan, Haw, Lonergan, Scott, Child, Matley, Ellis, Corbin, Griffin, MacDonald, Rupacha, Clucas. Replacements: Zhang, Vaughan, Richersmith, Robbie.
