4th XV Season 2008/9

After finishing last season with wins over Vigo II and Gravesend IV (League winners and runners-up respectively) the omens look good for a stronger campaign this season, provided we can keep a good proportion of the side together. Bearing in mind that we entered last season with virtually none of the previous year's 4th team available owing to University, injury and emigration, it was very gratifying to gradually build up a new squad of players to replace that team. Hopefully, we can reap the benefits in 2008/9. The key to success will be turning the narrow losses of last season into wins this season.

It is particularly in the 4th team that new players and players stepping up from the junior club often find their feet, playing along-side a few long serving stalwarts who give the side some much needed stability. The best players will quickly gravitate upwards to the top end of the club but its always good to hang on to a few quality players when they find that they're enjoying the ambience in the lower sides.

Either way, the important thing is to play all of our fixtures; to play within the spirit of the game; to enjoy our rugby and to uphold the fine traditions of Maidstone FC.
