Maidstone 7 Colchester 17 |
Despite Maidstone U13’s having two unfortunate losses under their hats; they fought an evenly matched side with sheer determination on Sunday 2nd October.
From the start Maidstone looked the stronger side, however a slight Maidstone mistake resulted in a try in the corner, by the Colchester fullback. Maidstone came back stronger, although not quite strong enough to stop another questionable Colchester try. Colchester then went on to spend the rest of the first half in Maidstone territory. Maidstone defended fantastically up until just before half time when they charged down to Colchester’s half, they were just yards from the try-line when unfortunately the Colchester referee blew for half-time. Half time score was 0-12.
Maidstone dominated the second half with brilliant tactful runs and side-steps from Tom Griffin leading to a thoroughly deserved try which was successfully converted by Sam Ellis. A further try was scored from Colchester after escaping the Maidstone rucks and mauls alongside the pressure added after spending most of this half defensively against Maidstone’s attack. There were many injuries throughout the match, but Maidstone’s dangerous outside-centre and try scorer Tom Griffin suffered a broken wrist after galloping toward the posts. Everyone wishes him a speedy recovery! Each player on the pitch gave it their all, much to both the coaches’ and spectators’ delight although the full-time score was 7-17. |
