After two seasons of finishing as runners up in the Invicta League, the 08/09 season has to be the one in which the Mustangs mount a successful campaign for the league title if we are to show signs of moving forward. This seasons challenge will be probably one of the more difficult due to the additions of Dover 2’s, Canterbury and Westcombe Park 3’s to the league, however, this is a challenge the squad are more than capable of rising to.
I will be captaining the Mustangs again which I’m sure will be great news to some of Kent’s Referees (who are in my mind the best referees in the country!!), Shaun “Big Ern” Neaves, who has taken on a coaching role with the 1st XV squad, will also continue his work the Mustangs, on the administrative side of things Laurence “Noel” Waters remains as team manager, doing all the little jobs for us that no-one else seem to wants. We welcome Gary Whitehead to the coaching team, who like Shaun has a coaching role with the 1st XV squad but will also have a lead role in developing our back play.
With a squad approach being taken to training for the 1st and 2nd XVs this season it is imperative that we all make that extra bit of effort and not only show our faces Thursday but Tuesdays as well. Competition for places this season looks set to be more fierce then ever in both the first and second team and these 2 evening training sessions are where positions on the team sheet will be won.
Here’s to a great season!!
