Aylesford Bulls Under 16’s                     0

Maidstone Under 16’s                          36

Maidstone shrugged off the effects of the long Christmas break straight from the start of this local derby game and forced The Bulls to adopt a defensive game for most of the match.

The Maidstone pack won much of the ball in the set piece scrums and lineouts giving the backs a good platform for attacking moves from Shephard, Wright, McFadyen and Turner. Strong tackling by Aylesford stopped Maidstone crossing the try line on numerous occasions.

Maidstone were also the dominant force in the rucks and mauls which gave plenty of opportunities for Bryan, Rookledge and Rackham, ably supported by Mallett to create pressure on the Bulls. Aylesford were not able to contain this pressure and Maidstone kept the scoreboard ticking over on a regular basis as they repeatedly crossed the try line.

The second half continued with Maidstone on the attack and scoring more points. Mid way through the half, injuries to the Aylesford front row resulted in the scrums being uncontested. By this stage the game was beyond Aylesford’s reach, as Maidstone extended their lead further.

Six tries from Mallett, Parbutt, Dolan, Finch and Starks(2) and three conversions from Rookledge gave Maidstone a comfortable win.
