The Battle on the Somme  16th Nov 2014

In the week we remember the brave man and women that fought at the battle of the Somme, we too made history at Maidstone rugby club with our own battle on the Somme.  The under 13 girls took on the girls from Sevenoaks and what a battle it was.

We only had 7 girls able to play and Sevenoaks brought 14 with them. Sevenoaks were very strong and won by getting 3 to 4 more trys to everyone that Maidstone scored. That apart, both teams worked really hard with plenty of top level tackles made by all.

The game was split in to 3x ten minute games and for the whole 30 minutes of game play it was hard hitting from beginning to end. Near the end of the first half one of the Maidstone girls, Josie came off after being winded. To help us out, one of the Sevenoaks girls put on a Maidstone top until the break and she didn't pull any punches; then Josie returned and played to the end. Jenny scored all the Maidstone try's;  there was great tackling by Jenny, Molly, Sofie, Heidi, Elle, Niamh and Josie and all the Sevenoaks girls. It was a true pleasure training and watching the girls play today.

I would like to thank all the girls from both sides and all the supporters for such a great game.

Miles.

Supporters Man of the Match

Whilst the team performance stuttered slightly, the performance of Craig Webb stood out for both his defensive and offensive contributions and garnered him this week's  Supporters Man of the Match award.
