Maidstone versus Aylesford and Canterbury at Aylesford

The Maidstone under 9’s, despite limited time training together, gave a good account of themselves in their first competitive games this season. Despite not winning a match in the triangular games, they managed to draw their game first against Canterbury, only losing narrowly against the Canterbury’s second squad and the following match against Aylesford.

Good performances running with the ball in hand through the middle of the opposition pack were shown by Ellis P and Fimbar. With Daniel showing great potential as a up and coming Flanker getting amongst the “ruff stuff” and being able to rip the ball from the opposite securing good turnover’s. Both Jess and Kieran showed good skills in their scrimmaging, rucking technique, both quick to pick up the niceties of the line outs and forward play. Young Ellis L put in some excellent tackles, showing no fear in bringing down players a lot bigger than himself and also made a few slight of foot runs with the ball. The speed merchants of the team, Paul and Luke showed their ability to avoid the tackle and made some carving runs through the opposition lines also getting involved in the rucking when required. All the boys got stuck in and it was only their inexperience in the tackle which was the deciding factor in the matches.

For the Stones first game together they showed great potential for the future. This I’m sure with more games under their belt their results will improve in time and the team will enjoy many wins in the up coming season.
