Welcome to the Maidstone U18’s Homepage !
It is with some disappointment that the club will not now be running an U18 side for the 2010/11 season. The side had conducted a successful preseason training programme alongside the senior squad, and had also been approached by several new players to join the team from clubs not running sides in this age group. Unfortunately, the requirements of academic studies for A-Levels and the pressures of work created by part-time employment to meet player’s economic needs have meant that this talented group of players have hit that point as young adults where they were confronted with choices, and decisions had to be made.
Whilst there were still numbers to field a team it was felt that once the season was underway the impact of unavailabilities and inevitable injuries along the way would make the guarantee of fielding a side to meet county league commitments untenable in the long term. As a consequence, the side have decided not to compete in this years Kent U18 league and the remaining players are now being integrated into adult rugby with the club’s senior sides, with a number already making a significant impact in the senior squad.
Tthis was a squad that was following in the footsteps of the club's previous successful sides at U17 & U18 level; as U17s the squad had a successful season in 2009/10, bookending the year with taking the Jack Conn Cup in an Essex invitational tournament and then narrowly losing out to rivals Sevenoaks (who went on to win the National Plate competition) in the Kent Cup Final. Highlight of the season was a highly successful tour to Cork in the Emerald Isle.
If you are a player in this age group interested in playing club rugby, then don’t discount the club just because they are not running a side at this level. If you are over 17 then you are eligible to play senior rugby and you can be integrated into one of the clubs 5 senior sides playing league rugby at an appropriate level. For more information contact the club through either the Youth Chairman or the Director of Rugby via the websites contacts page.
