Results for 10th Oct..
Honours even this week, with 2 wins, 2 losses, a draw and a week-off for the 3rds.
The 1st Team score-line looks very discouraging after recent signs of progress, although its clear from both ours and Chichester's match reports (scroll-down) that it was a very competitive match until the last quarter. We are continuing to strengthen week by week and the season still has a very long way to go.
The Mustangs and Old Elthamians II went into their Invicta match without a win between them yet this season, so something had to give. In the event, nothing "gave" as they drew - setting up a fascinating re-match at home next week when they meet again in the Invicta Cup. Having been 12-0 down at one stage, The Mustangs did well to fight their way back to a draw, all of their points coming from Mike Laurenson at Fly-half.
The Fourths made too light of their friendly fixture vs Sheppey II and paid the price for complacency against an outfit that turned up determined to win. Whilst it appeared that the game was there for the taking, a lack of cohesion and ineffective use of the ball cost Maidstone numerous scoring chances. Well done to Toby Young though for getting his first try of the season and sincere thanks to Will Young for stepping in to referee at the last moment.
The 5th team juggernaut rolled on at New Ash Green with an emphatic win, Mike Gillies doing most of the damage from Scrum-half, although I gather that a certain former 5th team player also had a pretty good game at No 8 whilst re-visiting his spiritual home. (The camera never lies)
I guess the champagne eventually went flat on the Somme, as The Vets notched up only one try in the 2nd half vs Lordswood Vets, compared with the 5 converted tries they had rattled up in an impressive 1st half. Thanks to Lordswood for helping us out by providing a referee and thanks also to them for an invitation to a memorial day club tournament and family fun day on 17th April, for which Vets skipper Steve Vincent has agreed to get a Maidstone Club XV assembled to take part.
Food
I'm sure that people must have noticed how goodthe food suddenly is, now that the new catering team have taken over in the kitchen. On thursday nights, food is available after training but its important to order it and pay for it on arrival, so that your meal can be ready and waiting for you when training is finished. The exception is Curry Club night (1st thursday of month) when there is no point in the catererseven turning up.The Sausage and Mash with a red-wine jus was top-notch last week and I think that we can also look forward to a few Scots and North country specialities if I'm any judge of accents.
The Colin Adamson Hypnosis and Mind Games Experience sat 24th October 8pm
This event is now nearly upon us and people need to be securing their tickets for what should be a very exciting evening of tasteful and engaging entertainment - at a bargain price. Tickets are available at the bar. Bring a group of friends whilst the cheaper tickets are still available.
