Coaches Corner

Introduction

‘As part of the Whole Club Seal of Approval (WCSoA) and for the continuing professional development of all coaches at the Club, I have been appointed as the Club Coaching Coordinator with a direct responsibility for all coaching matters across the senior and youth sections. This is a role I am familiar with having previously been Master i/c Rugby at MGS from 1972-1990, Head Coach at Maidstone FC 1972-1980 and Blackheath FC 1980-1984, as well as the Kent Coach from 1985-1988. From 1990 I was employed by the RFU as Coaching Development Manager until my retirement in 2010.

The ‘Coaches Corner’ facility has been created to provide you with a vast range of coaching resources to help you develop as coaches and for specific use in your coaching sessions. This includes manuals covering set piece and open play, copies of the International Coaching Journal, hyperlinks to useful sites and week-by-week coaching sessions and planners for immediate use. It also includes standardised templates, such as schedules and session planners, which are available for your use..

Outside of this, it is also important that you receive feedback on your coaching and to this end; I will be arranging and carrying out coaching observations to evaluate current coaching performance and to provide feedback to help focus on any areas for improvement. I would also like to make myself available as a useful resource and hope that you will contact me if you need to seek advice or have any coaching issues you wish to discuss. Periodically, I will also be arranging a number of coaching workshops where I can disseminate important information and share good practice throughout the Club.

I hope you find ‘Coaches Corner a useful addition, which will enhance your experience of coaching at MFC. Reviews from observed sessions will contain generic coaching advice and will be posted, along with other useful articles, in the bottom section of the Coaches Corner.
