Nomads XV

The Nomads are a Maidstone occasional team that last played regularly in the late 1970s. The name and the team was revived during the latter half of the 2007/08 season to accommodate the number of players that were available for selection and who would not otherwise have got a game for one of the 6 regular teams.
Nomads rugby is based on the belief that new or inexperienced players need match-time rather than bench-warming time: its therefore very handy to have a social team that is not playing League Matches and where the result has no long term consequences.

The Nomads have no fixture list, although if they play regularly this year, that may need to be altered for next season. Instead, they play ad-hoc fixtures from the fixture-exchange, whenever suitable opposition can be found (which is in fact the biggest challenge faced). Notwithstanding this, some good players have played in the Nomads cause and its always great to have half a dozen experienced players on board to hold a team together. As a result, despite only achieving limited success in the win/loss column, some very enjoyable matches have been played and some outstanding performances have been witnessed.

Thanks are due to all the players who have played for the Nomads to date (including Steve Pooley, who was the last Skipper of the Nomads in the 1970s) and who will turn out for any Maidstone team, just for the love of the game. Lets hope there will be many more.
