Friendly

Vets  Lordswood Vets A Won 19-14 Friendly

The 1sts enjoyed one of their best games of the season until injury took its toll and the guys ended up with just 14 players on the pitch.  Unfortunately, the 4 or 5 injuries sustained on saturday made it impossibel to field a credible team to play in the Kent Cup Plate match vs Canterbury on sunday, which was conceded with regret.  Its a shame to have conceded but with a threadbare squad, two games in a week-end and Mother's day to boot, somewhat predictable in advance - which was why we wanted to get this game played 3 weeks ago when we had a spare weekeend .

No Mustangs fixture this week .

The 3rds had a  point to prove after having lost twice to folkestone already this season (Invicta League and Cup) and they proved it in some style, John MacIntyre producing another outstanding display with Hogy also at his brilliant best. The team are now coming up on the rails in a big way and are actually in some serious danger of winning this League. Shame to have lost the 7 hard-fought points already gained against Aylesford 2nds, following the news that they have withdrawn from the Invicta League and their results have been expunged.

The 4ths had no opposition this week following the withdrawal of Ashford III owing to League commitments.

The 5ths played a friendly vs Gravesend Moles and produced one of their best performances of the season, Richard Nunn getting 2 tries and Sam Harrison getting another -although sadly pulling a ham-string in the process.

Several of the spare 4th team joined the Vets for their friendly at Lordswood - which was just as well as Lordswood had also employed sevearal youngsters to get the fixture played.  5 of the Vets had only arrived back from their French ski-trip at 4-30 am but still turned in a full game despite various ski-ing aches and pains and an 11 hour drive.  Gary Whitehead, playing at scrum-half, opened the scoring whilst skipper-for-the-day Dave Hughes wrong-footed dozens of defenders to dart through and score the second.

Having fallen behind by half time, Gary then got a 2nd try to regain the lead and clinch the win, although no one could resist pointing out that his Dad scored three tries last time he played for the Vets.

Next Week

The Mustangs have no scheduled fixture, although there could be a postponed league game to play. The 5ths are on tour, so the Vets are going to play their League game for them vs T wells IV, which will also serve as the annual Memorial Trophy Match for deceased members of the Vets team.

Evergreen Cup

The draw for the Semi Final has been made and the 1st thing to note is that Sutton and Epsom will not add to their tally of wins this year as they have already been knocked out.  Cranbrook have been drawn at home to Blackheath, whilst Maidstone have been drawn at home to either Farnham or Haywards Heath.  Date of the semi final will be published asap.
